Performing Arts Center

The proponents of the city owned and operated performing arts center
would have you believe that our group is opposed to
A performing arts
center. The truth is that our members are NOT opposed to the concept,
but are adamantly opposed to a
city owned and operated Performing
Arts Center (PAC).There are many good, sound, logical reasons for the
stand we have taken.

Further, the proponents of the publicly funded art center would have
our group be the cause of the PAC's failure.  Have you noted the few
letters to the editor calling for everyone to come together to make the
PAC a success?  After the City Council vote to move forward on the
PAC, our group made the conscious decision to sit back and wait, and
watch.   Where are the fund raising announcements?  What is the
status of the sale of the naming rights, one of the major assets of such
a facility?  The City Communication Director announced that
"hundreds" of people attended the beam raising ceremony, and this
was touted as a successful event.  If the PAC is to succeed, and had
the majority of Burnsville citizens been in favor of it, there would have
needed to be thousands of people coming out on a sunny day for a
beam raising ceremony.  If the PAC fails, it will not be as a result of
what city leaders previously described as a "small but vocal minority"
which opposed the publicly funded PAC.  Any failure will be the result
of poor planning and the hubris of our current leaders.  But we're all
about positive change.  We just wanted to set the record straight.
