Respect for Citizens
Many people we've met in the past expressed concern about publicly
criticizing our city government. Business owners, large and small, are
in a particularly difficult position: they are more likely to at some point
need a favorable decision from City Government for business
purposes. In this instance, a city government with a long institutional
memory can prevent well reasoned debate from taking place, and in
the process, miss out on valuable expertise and advice from all
sectors of our city, private citizens and business enterprise. People
in Burnsville do watch their government in action on cable access.
Unfortunately, they often come away from the experience dissatisfied,
and sometimes embarrassed of their representative's actions. The
eye rolling. The dismissive comments. The snide comments to fellow
council members. The failure to answer direct citizen questions
during the public comment period. How often have you found
yourself talking back to your television set during cable access
replays? Our group is fortunate in the ability to provide a forum for
citizens to express their concerns (anonymously if need be), to the
